NASCAR has said it is confident of finding a new title sponsor for the truck-racing series following the news that Craftsmen is to quit its role as title sponsor at the end of the 2008 season.
The company, which manufactures and sells tools, had held the role of title sponsor since 1995 but has elected to end its association with the series to go 'in a different direction' for the future.
However, NASCAR's chief marketing officer Steve Phelps said he expected plenty of people to show an interest in taking on the title sponsorship, with the series having gained a core following amongst fans over the years.
“We obviously anticipate a great deal of interest,” he told
Sportbusiness.com “It delivers solid ratings, we've got a core fan base that has been watching the NASCAR Craftsman Truck series for 13 years, and it always seems to have great racing, right down to the last race.”
NASCAR's two other championships will already have name changes from 2008. The NEXTEL Cup series will become the Sprint Cup series and the Busch series will become the Nationwide series.
