Braun Racing has announced that Scott Zipadelli has joined the team to serve as crew chief for the #38 Great Clips team of Jason Leffler.
Bringing with him a wealth of experience, Zipadelli has over 12 years in the industry and has worked with several championship winning organisations.
Zipadelli first came onto the NASCAR scene in 1999, starting out as a general mechanic at Innovative Motorsports. He quickly made a name for himself and within two years made the move to Evernham Motorsports.
In 2002, Zipadelli joined his older brother Greg, at Joe Gibbs Racing where he watched Greg lead Tony Stewart to his first ever NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Championship. Inspired by being a part of a highly successful organization, the younger Zipadelli moved into the role of plate setup manager for the #18 car, driven by 2000 NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion Bobby Labonte. Additionally, he served as the chassis setup specialist and was later promoted to car chief for the team. In five seasons with the #18 team, Zipadelli and his crew saw Victory Lane three times and sat on the Bud Pole Position for nine events.
Zipadelli returned to the Nationwide Series and joined JTG Racing as crew chief of the #47 team, first with driver, Jon Wood, and then newcomer Kelly Bires. In two years, Zipadelli proved to have the knack as he helped Wood and Bires, a rookie driver, to numerous impressive finishes before taking up his new challenge for 2009.
“I'm very excited about the opportunity to join Braun Racing,” said Zipadelli. “This is a team that has proven that they have all of the necessary tools to go out and contend for wins each and every week. I look forward to helping to add to their success and working together with this core group of guys who have been together for a number of years to win more races and contend for a championship.”
Leffler, who has driven for Braun Racing since 2005, is excited about the fresh perspective Zipadelli brings with him to the organisation.
“Scott is going to be a great addition to our team and I'm really pumped up about what he is going to bring to this team,” he said. “I think it is going to be a great fit. I am already impatient to get to Daytona and to start a new season with Scott leading this team!"
