I think RawDawg is absolutely right. There have been a lot of overly - emotional comments over the last few days that imply Indy Cars aren't safe. Nothing could be further from the truth. This accident , however tragic it may be , was an aberration.
The problem appears to be the layout of some of the 1.5 mile oval tracks like Vegas. I'm not sure that all of them are equally dangerous.
Someone on Speed Channel suggested possibly going back to something like the Hanford Wing on ovals. It allowed safe passing which eliminated the cars being stuck in a pack at super high speeds. Speed itself wasn't the problem , it was the cars being bunched up and unable to pass.
