Tony Stewart led 166 of the 267 laps at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, but ultimately found it simply wasn't good enough to take him to the chequered flag in first place.

Instead, Carl Edwards was able to gamble on a two-tyre final pit stop where Stewart needed a full four tyres after having already used the two-tyre dodge during his recovery from a pit stop penalty for dragging an air hose out of the pit box on lap 155, and the difference was enough to give Edwards victory.

Polesitter Matt Kenseth suffered a flat tyre shortly after the first round of pit stops and spent much of the race off the lead lap as a result. Kyle Busch made a more permanent early exit from the race after his car blew up shortly after he'd made contact with the wall, and the #18 subsequently started to spurt flames on lap 108. Kyle's brother Kurt went for a spin on lap 102 but recovered to finish inside the top ten in ninth; the spin almost took out the #21 of Trevor Bayne, who also survived subsequent contact with Jamie McMurray to finish 20th in a solid full-race distance performance for the Daytona 500 winner.
