Kyle Busch might have narrowly missed out on the triple crown this weekend, but he'll celebrate taking the first-ever Sprint Cup win at Kentucky Speedway on Saturday night - one entry in the record books that will never be overturned.

Busch started from pole position and led an unbeaten 125 laps of the 267 circulations of the 1.5 mile (2.4 km) tri-oval, in a race that saw six cautions, the most serious of which (Dale Earnhardt Jr. blowing a tyre on lap 254, Clint Bowyer hitting the wall on lap 265) coming in the final 15 laps of the race.

It's Kyle Busch's 22nd career Sprint Cup win in 240 starts, and together with his victory in Thursday night's UNOH 225 Camping World Truck Series race it makes for 99 wins in NASCAR's three top national series. The victory also puts Kyle on top of the Sprint Cup points standings at last, albeit a narrow four points ahead of Carl Edwards; Kyle also joins arch rival Kevin Harvick as the only drivers so far this season to claim three race victories, with Kyle the only driver to win from pole position all season to date, although pole was set by fastest practice time after qualifying on Friday was washed out.

The Kentucky Speedway announced that a capacity crowd of over 107,000 attended the inaugural Cup race event this weekend.
