Trucks - Iowa - Race results

17 July 2011

Matt Crafton won Saturday night's Coca-Cola 200 presented by Hy-Vee Camping World Truck Series race at the 0.875 mile tri-oval Iowa Speedway, his second victory in the series some 79 race starts apart.

Crafton started in 11th and ran in the top ten for the whole evening, taking the lead on lap 161 after the final round of pit stops under caution. Austin Dillon had looked the stand-out performer of the evening until then and duly gave chase for the lead, briefly taking the top spot for a solitary lap on 188, before Crafton was able to wrest back control from then until the chequered flag.

"I saw him back there," Crafton said of Dillon, "and I thought 'Oh boy, I'm going to have to work for this one.' I knew he had a fast truck and I knew I was going to have to save mine to race with him at the end."

"We were fastest all night, but they just made the right call in the end," said Dillon of the winning team.

David Mayhew finished in third place, having earlier laid claim to his first Truck series career pole position in only his sixth start with a lap of 23.080s (136.482mph) putting him on the front row alongside Joey Coulter, who went on to finish fifth. Mayhew delivered the second pole of the season for his team, Kevin Harvick Inc.

Johnny Sauter takes the Truck series points lead after finishing in fourth at Iowa. He leads Dillon by 22pts and Cole Whitt - who finished in sixth - by 26pts.

The field was unusually devoid of Cup and nationwide drivers as those drivers were all competing at New Hampshire Speedway in Loudon on the East Coast this weekend and therefore too far away to do any double- or even triple-duty.
