Cup - Phoenix - Race results

14 November 2011

Kasey Kahne emerged at the front of the field at Phoenix after a late round of pit stops, and led for just 14 of the 312 laps of the Kobalt Tools 500. But since they were the final 14 laps, they were exactly what he needed to claim his first Sprint Cup win in 81 races, the latter half of them for Red Bull Racing.

He finished right in front of Chase cup contenders Carl Edwards and Tony Stewart who finished second and third. Stewart had looked mighty early on and led 160 laps in total, but faded a little while Edwards grew steadily stronger with every passing pit stop. With Edwards finishing one place ahead but Stewart getting the bonus points for laps led, the two drivers exit Phoenix with the same three points between them in the Championship standings that they came in with.

Kurt Busch led for 57 laps but tried to push his fuel too far at the end, while Matt Kenseth led 49 laps before being involved in an accident with Kahne's team mate Brian Vickers.
