Cup - Shootout - Race results

19 February 2012

Kyle Busch managed to start from the back of the field, pull off a dramatic mid-race save and survived involvement in one of the night's three big wrecks in order to win the Budweiser Shootout by just 0.013s over Tony Stewart, the narrowest margin of victory in the non-championship event's history.

"I've been in that situation, reversed, before with Tony," said Busch of their last lap battle for the chequered flag. "This time it turned out all right. We made it past him and beat him to the line, so it was cool."

Marcos Ambrose was also caught up in one of the night's wrecks but rallied to finish in third place ahead of Brad Keselowski.

The most spectacular crash came on the penultimate lap of the race when Jeff Gordon was sent barrel-rolling through the final corner and sliding upside down into the entrance to pit road. He was unhurt, but the incident forced the race into seven laps of overtime and a final green-white-chequered finish.
