Denny Hamlin posted the fastest time of the day in practice at Daytona International Speedway ahead of Saturday's Drive4COPD 300, the first race of the 2012 Nationwide Series.

His time of 45.576s (197.472 mph) was just one thousandth of a second faster than Brian Scott at the end of the first 50 minute practice session of the day., with Kurt and Kyle Busch the next two fastest cars.

In the later 95-minute second practice session, James Buescher's time of 46.070s (195.355 mph) was a dead heat with Kasey Kahne in a two-car tandem run. Kurt Busch was once again third fastest, coming in ahead of David Ragan.

Danica Patrick's best time of the day was 46.570s in the second session, while Camping World Truck Series champion Austin Dillon recorded a lap of 46.450s.

Qualifying for the race takes place on Friday afternoon.
