NASCAR » Cup - Martinsville - Race results

Ryan Newman claimed victory at the end of the Goody's Fast Relief 500 Cup race at Martinsville after a late caution triggered two green-white-chequered finishes.
Ryan Newman emerged triumphant at the end of over 500 laps at Martinsville Speedway, his 16th victory in 374 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races but his first win in 21 races at Martinsville.

The win came after longtime leader Jeff Gordon ran out of fuel following the first attempt at a green-white chequered flag that had ended in Clint Bowyer dive-bombing down the inside line and taking out Gordon's team mate Jimmie Johnson.

While several drivers had cut tyres, spins or hits with the wall - including Kyle and Kurt Busch, Juan Montoya, Travis Kvapil and Dave Blaney - there were only six cautions during the three and a half hour race. Polesitter Kasey Kahne was once again out of luck after retiring from the race because of a blown engine.

Yep, NASCAR have now issued comprehensively revised results from their original posted data and the Crash.net page has been updated accordingly (including changes to the championship standings.)

The results aren't actually official until NASCAR ratifies them on Tuesday, and since there already seems to have been some confusion about what happened in that final GWC it's perfectly possible they'll change again then!

Cheers - Andrew.
