Mark Martin put the #55 car at the top of the timesheets in Thursday's sole Cup practice session ahead of Saturday night's Samsung Mobile 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.
Mark Martin proved once again that he was thriving on his part-time schedule in 2012, putting the #55 on top of the first practice session timesheets at Texas Motor Speedway for Saturday night's Samsung Mobile 500 floodlit race.

Martin's lap of 28.507s (189.427 mph) was 0.031s ahead of Greg Biffle, with Kevin Harvick, AJ Allmendinger and Regan Smith also within a tenth of the top time on the 1.5-mile quad-oval venue after the sole two-hour practice session on Thursday afternoon.

A second practice session will be held on Friday afternoon ahead of the qualifying session in the early evening (6.30pm ET).

With 46 cars competing for a 46-car grid, three cars will go home after Friday evening qualifying. In Thursday's practice session, the three cars in the drop zone were Scott Riggs, Scott Speed and Stacy Compton.
