Cup - Darlington - Qualifying times

Current Sprint Cup championship points leader Greg Biffle put himself into pole position for the start of this week's race at Darlington Raceway.
Roush Fenway Racing's Greg Biffle turned a lap of 27.281s (180.257 mph) in the penultimate run of qualifying to claim pole position for the Southern 500 Cup series race at Darlington Raceway.

It's his 11th pole in 341 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races, and his second pole and eighth top-10 start in 2012. It's his second pole in 12 races at Darlington Raceway. Biffle has won twice before at Darlington, in 2005 and 2009.

Biffle will start alongside Jimmie Johnson on the front row, while Kasey Kahne and Ryan Newman start immediately behind them. Scott Riggs, Michael McDowell, Stephen Leicht and Mike Bliss all failed to qualify for the 43-car starting grid for Saturday evening's race.

Earlier, Kevin Harvick had topped the first practice session of the day with a lap of 27.769s (177.090 mph) just 0.126s ahead of Biffle, while in the second practice session Biffle again came second, this time by 0.047s to AJ Allmendinger whose lap of 28.097s (175.022 mph) was the best showing.
