NASCAR » Cup - Darlington - Race results

Jimmie Johnson won the Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway on Saturday night, and in doing so took Hendrick Motorsport to their 200th victory in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
Jimmie Johnson was jubilant on Saturday night under the floodlights, as he claimed his 56th victory in 374 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races by winning the Bojangles' Southern 500 race at Darlington Raceway.

As well as being his first win of 2012 and his third series victory in 14 starts at Darlington, the win also pushed his team Hendrick Motorsports over the landmark of 200 victories in Cup racing, only the second team in series history to achieve that feat after Petty Enterprise.

Johnson crossed the finish line with a margin of less than a second over Denny Hamlin in a green-white-chequered finish. Hamlin had Tony Stewart and Kyle Busch in hot pursuit following nearly four hours of racing over a distance of 500 miles on the intermediate (1.366-mile) oval in South Carolina.

Greg Biffle continues to lead the championship points standings, but now by just 2pts over Matt Kenseth.
