Veteran racer Mark Martin showed once again this season that there's no stopping a man of his experience and raw talent, as he claimed pole for the FedEx 400 Cup race at Dover.
Isn't there some natural law about people not being able to drive as fast when they get older? In which case 53-year-old Mark Martin is either a freak of nature or more likely just hasn't read the owner's manual, because he was able to grab pole position for the FedEx 400 benefiting Autism Speaks NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race with the final run of qualifying at Dover International Raceway on Saturday.

Martin's time of 22.742s (158.297mph) was just five thousandths of a second faster than five-time Cup champion Jimmie Johnson, who will start alongside him on the front row.

It's Martin's 54th pole in 840 Cup starts and his third pole of 2012 alone. He has more proven success at Dover than any driver in the field, with five poles, 23 top finishes and 31 top tens at the Monster Mile in 52 outings. Martin had earlier also topped the first practice session held on Friday.

Ryan Newman will start alongside Martin's Michael Waltrip Racing team mate Martin Truex Jr. on the second row of the grid for Sunday afternoon's race, with Matt Kenseth and Kevin Harvick on the third row.
