Nationwide: Kansas - Race results

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. won the Nationwide race at Kansas despite tangling with Joey Logano in the middle of the race, after other drivers found themselves running short on fuel.
Ricky Stenhouse Jr. staged a dramatic comeback from mid-race misfortune to win the Kansas Lottery 300 Nationwide Series race on Saturday afternoon at Kansas Speedway, as his main rivals all fell short on fuel by the time the race ended six laps over time under green-white-chequered finish conditions.

It's Stenhouse's sixth win of 2012 and his eighth in 103 Nationwide Series starts, but his first at Kansas in three races at the venue. Stenhouse led for 25 laps in total, while long-time leader Paul Menard - who had been in front for 110 laps in total - ran dry when the race took its final restart.

Joey Logano had claimed pole position for the race, his fifth pole of the season and his 21st in 107 Nationwide Series starts. His time of 29.522s (182.914mph) was not surprisingly a new track record for Nationwide cars at Kansas Speedway, following its repaving and reconfiguration with increased and variable banking introduced since the last time NASCAR visited the 1.5-mile tri-oval. Josh Wise was the only driver to fail to qualify for the race.

There had been three practice sessions on Friday, to allow the drivers to get used to the repaved, reconfigured 1.5-mile track at Kansas. Kevin Harvick led the times in the first session with a lap of 30.130s (179.223 mph) and Austin Dillon was fastest in the second with a time of 30.029s (179.826 mph) but it was Joey Logano topped the final session with the fastest lap of the day of 29.558s (182.692 mph).
