Jimmie Johnson continued on his seemingly increasingly certain path to a sixth championship by claiming pole position for this weekend's AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.
Having triumphed last weekend at Martinsville to take the lead of the 2012 Chase, Jimmie Johnson continued to be on a roll by taking pole position for this weekend's Cup race in Texas.

It's Johnson's 29th pole in 397 Cup starts, and his fourth pole in 2012. He also claimed pole position for last weekend's race at Martinsville. It's his first pole position on the 1.5-mile Texas Motor Speedway, his time of 28.261s (191.076mph) just a tenth father than Greg Biffle.

There was just one practice session on Friday before qualifying. Martin Truex Jr. went top in that with a time of 28.310s (190.745 mph) just 0.044s ahead of his Michael Waltrip Racing team mate Mark Martin.
