Trucks: Phoenix - Race results

Brian Scott claimed his second Trucks Series victory, after pulling off a late pass in a green-white-chequered finish to deny Kyle Larson victory at Phoenix International Raceway.
Brian Scott claimed his second NASCAR Camping World Truck Series win in 62 starts by passing Kyle Larson in a green-white chequered finish to clinch the Lucas Oil 150 on Friday evening at Phoenix International Raceway.

Brian Scott became the 15th different winner of 2012, which sets a series record for the highest number in a single season. Scott's only previous win in the series was at Dover in May 2009, 22 starts ago. Scott led for the most laps in the race, 48 in total in three different stints. It gives his team, Kyle Busch Motorsports, its 18th victory in the series.

There were nine cautions in the one hour 45 minute race, including a red flag on lap 111 that lasted for 13 minutes while an accident involving German Quiroga, Brendan Gaughan and Ty Dillon as cleaned up.

Nelson Piquet Jr. claimed pole position for the race with a lap of 26.778s (134.439mph) just 0.015s faster than talented teenager Ryan Blaney. “I thought we could have had a little bigger margin, but I'm really happy,” said Piquet afterwards. It was Piquet's fourth pole in 2012 and in 51 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts, and the laptime was a new track record, following the recent repaving and reconfiguration that made Clint Bowyer's previous February 201 benchmark of 133.949mph moot.

The two practice sessions were held on Thursday, with Matt Crafton pacing the first with a time of 27.839s (129.315mph) just seven thousandths of a second ahead of Todd Bodine, and Piquet's 26.452s (136.096mph) comfortably ahead of Parker Kilgerman by nearly a quarter of a second in the later outing.
