Joey Logano claimed pole position for the final Sprint Cup race of the 2012 season, while Brad Keselowski will start from the second row seven spots ahead of Jimmie Johnson.
Joey Logano claimed pole position for the Ford EcoBoost 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. It is his fifth pole in 147 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races, and his second in 2012 after Pocono. His lap of 30.672s (176.056mph) on the 1.5-mile oval was 0.125s faster than Marcos Ambrose who started from second.

In the battle for the championship, Brad Keselowski drew first blood by out-qualifying Jimmie Johnson. Keselowski will start from third place alongside Carl Edwards, while Jimmie Johnson will start from tenth place sharing row five with Mark Martin. The rest of the top ten for the start of Sunday afternoon's race comprises Aric Almirola, Clint Bowyer, Martin Truex Jr. and Kyle Busch.

Denny Hamlin will start from the penultimate row of the grid for the race. The four cars that failed to qualify on speed were Reed Sorenson, Stephen Leicht, Jason Leffler and Joe Nemecheck.

Logano had also earlier paced the sole Friday practice session open to the Cup field, with a lap of 31.202s (173.066 mph) just enough to see off Martin Truex Jr. by 0.028s.
