A dramatic climax to the 2012
NASCAR Camping World Truck Series saw the title effectively decided by a wreck two laps before the scheduled end of the Ford EcoBoost 200 night race at Homestead-Miami, which took out Ty Dillon who had been the most serious threat to James Buescher clinching the championship.
It's Buescher's first championship after four full-time seasons in the Truck Series, and he did it after clinching four wins over the course of the season at Kansas, Chicago and both races at Kentucky. He becomes the 12th different driver to win the title in the 18 years that the series has been running and is the second youngest, after Austin Dillon who won in 2011. It's the 15th time that the title has been decided at the final race of the season, and is the first championship success for Turner Motorsports.
After a red flag stoppage for the title-deciding wreck, Cale Gale managed to successfully out-battle Kyle Busch to claim the win in a green-white-chequered finish that saw the two cars making contact as they crossed the line just 0.014s apart. It's Gale's first win in the Trucks series in 32 starts, never having finished higher than fifth before.
Gale becomes the ninth first-time winner in 2012 and the 16th different driver to win in 22 races this season, a new series record. Gale led only the final lap of the race and has actually led only five laps in his entire Truck Series career; his margin of victory at the line ties that of Talladega in October 2007 as the seventh closest in the series' history.
Earlier, Parker Kligerman claimed pole position for the race with a lap of 31.986s (168.824mph) which equalled to the thousandth of a second the time already set by Kyle Larson. With Kligerman awarded pole based on the tiebreaker of car owner points, Larson took up position on the front row alongside the #33. It was Kligerman's second pole in 48 starts, his first pole coming at Iowa in September. In the sole practice session of the weekend on Friday, Kligerman had finished second in the timings, 0.076s behind Nelson Piquet Jr. who had topped the timesheets with a lap of 32.216s (167.619 mph) on the 1.5-mile oval.
