The two
Daytona 500 Duel events have put Kevin Harvick and Kyle Busch share the second row of the grid for this Sunday's
Daytona 500
NASCAR Sprint Cup championship season opener.
Danica Patrick had previously won pole position in last Sunday's qualifying speed trials, becoming the first female driver to win a pole in Sprint Cup history. Jeff Gordon locked himself into the second place position in the same session.
The order of the rest of the starting grid was formed by the results of the two Thursday afternoon Duel races, with Duel 1 setting the order for the inside line behind Patrick and Duel 2 setting the order of the outside line behind Gordon.
Kevin Harvick won the first Duel putting him into third place on the grid, with Greg Biffle and Juan Montoya earning fifth and seventh place starts with their efforts. In the second Duel, Kyle Busch held off Kasey Kahne and Austin Dillon to the chequered flag, meaning Busch starts from fourth alongside Harvick and Kahne and Dillon take sixth and eight positions respectively.
Irrespective of their grid positions, Carl Edwards and Trevor Bayne will both be sent to the back of the field before the start of the race after Duel crashes sent them to their back-up cars. Brian Keselowski and Mike Bliss failed to qualify for the
