Daytona - Truck results

Johnny Sauter won the first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race of the 2013 season at Daytona International Speedway on Friday night.
Johnny Sauter won his seventh Truck Series race at Daytona on Friday evening, thanks to a timely caution on the final lap of the NextEra Energy Resources 250 that kept him safe from any last minute attacks from Kyle Busch and Ron Hornaday Jr.

Brennan Newberry had led the field to the green after earlier winning his first series pole position in 11 Truck starts, but it was Justin Lofton who quickly usurped him up front. Lofton himself fell victim to Ty Dillon six laps later, who went on to lead for a total of 56 of the 100 laps of the race. Sauter himself bided his time until the last 16 laps of the race before taking control.

The biggest accident of the evening was on lap 54 when Brendan Gaughan went for a gap that didn't exist and sparked a 14-truck wreck that sidelined himself, Newberry, Bryan Silas and Chris Fontaine. Later in the race, an accident for Ryan Truex on lap 93 brought out the fifth caution of the day and set up a five-lap shootout once the green came back out. Any last-lap attempts to dethrone Sauter were then foiled by an accident involving defending series champion James Buescher, Joey Coulter, John King and Jeff Agnew that took place after Sauter had already passed the white flag for the final lap, freezing the field.
