Fontana - Nationwide results

Kyle Busch clinched victory in the Nationwide Series race at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, after a race-long duel with Sam Hornish Jr.
Kyle Busch was in victory lane again in the Nationwide Series, after claiming the chequered flag at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California on Saturday afternoon following a fierce race-long battle with Penske Racing's Sam Hornish Jr.

Busch had started the Royal Purple 300 from pole position, his 28th Nationwide pole and his third in 15 races at Auto Club Speedway, but at the start the lead was immediately taken by Elliott Sadler who was keen to address the damage to his championship hopes from his early retirement last week at Bristol. As Sadler took off into the distance, Busch was left struggling to hold off Brian Vickers and Sam Hornish Jr. as the #54 started to get loose. An ignition problem cost Sadler the lead and finally allowed Busch to head the field before the first round of pit stops under a debris caution.

Busch's Joe Gibbs Racing team mate Brian Vickers soon exited contention with engine troubles, while Busch himself continued to lead until another round of pit stops under caution on lap 93 which allowed Hornish to take over at the front. A spin through the in-field grass for Jason White on lap 109 allowed the drivers a final pit stop under yellow, and with 20 laps to go Busch managed to pass Hornish for the lead once again. From there it looked plain sailing for Busch, while Hornish survived an impact with the wall with two laps to go to hold on to second place ahead of Regan Smith and Parker Kilgerman.

It's Kyle Busch's 54th victory in 249 NASCAR Nationwide Series races (six at Fntana alone) and his third win in 2013 and makes it a record-extending run of nine for Joe Gibbs Racing. Sam Hornish Jr.'s second place means that his lead in the Nationwide standings is now 28 points over Regan Smith who finished third in Fontana.
