Road America: Nationwide resultsRoad America: Nationwide results

AJ Allmendinger had a welcome taste of success after claiming a maiden win in the NASCAR Nationwide Series at Road America on Saturday.
His sojourn over in the open-wheel IZOD IndyCar Series seems to have thoroughly revived AJ Allmendinger, who returned to the NASCAR Nationwide Series with a bang at Road America this weekend.

He claiming his first-series pole position and then successfully converted it to his first-ever win in the NASCAR Nationwide Series in his maiden appearance at the 4-mile, 14-turn Road America permanent racing facility in Elkhart Lake, WI.

Allmendinger led for 29 of what proved to be 55 laps, and the fuel conservation playbook was thrown out of the window after the race was extended by two attempts at a green-white chequered at the end of a marathon three hour race. Allmendinger weathered the final restarts from the front and brought the result home for the #22 Penske Racing team

Series regular Justin Allgaier pipped Parker Kligerman for second place, which means that he overtakes Sam Hornish Jr. in the Nationwide standings and closes the gap to championship leader Regan Smith to 28 points, after Smith finished off the lead lap in 32nd place having been bumped on lap 47 by road course specialist Kyle Kelly into Billy Johnson.
