Iowa: Truck results

The Truck Series headed to Iowa for a stand-alone event away from the Cup and Nationwide Series races, which allowed Timothy Peters to claim his first win of the year.
Red Horse Racing's Timothy Peters won this weekend's Truck Series event, his sixth victory in 149 starts and his first win of 2013, after heading to the front with 27 laps to go and holding off Erik Jones and James Buescher to the chequered flag under the floodlights at Iowa Speedway on Saturday night.

With the Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series regulars otherwise occupied in New Hampshire, this weekend's American Ethanol 200 was left to the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series regulars. German Quiroga Jr. started from pole position, the 33-year-old's first pole in 15 series starts after he set a new series track record for the 0.88-mile short-track speedway with a lap of 22.724s (138.620mph), and he duly led for the first 56 of the 200-lap race.

Ty Dillon took over the race lead following a debris caution, maintaining the top spot until a second caution for fluid on the track on lap 113. Timothy Peters led for the first time of the night after the restart for a dozen laps before James Buescher took to the front, looking to have the best pace of anyone at that stage with a 39-lap stint out in front, but Dillon returned to the lead on lap 166 before another caution for a spin by Darrell Wallace Jr. in the Kyle Busch Motorsport #54 allowed Peters to retake control of the race at the restart on lap 174. He lead from there to the chequered flag, finally crossing the line 0.225s ahead of the second of three KBM drivers in the race, Erik Jones in the #51, who succeeded in holding off Buescher to the flag for the runner-up spot.

In the Truck championship standings, Matt Crafton continues to lead by 38 points after finishing a solid sixth place at Iowa, his nearest rival Jeb Burton losing ground after finishing a lap off the lead in 22nd this weekend. Buescher's third place boosts him ahead of Ty Dillon in the standings, who crossed the line in 16th.
