Chicagoland: Nationwide results

Joey Logano claimed victory for Penske Racing at Chicagoland Speedway on Sunday afternoon, coming home 0.291s ahead of his team mate Sam Hornish Jr.
In a quiet weekend lacking any Sprint Cup or Truck Series races, the only NASCAR game in any town was the STP 300 Nationwide Series race at the 1.5-mile Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Illinois on Sunday afternoon, which saw Joey Logano take time off his Cup duties to pilot the #22 Penske Racing car to victory lane.

His team mate Sam Hornish Jr. started the race from pole position, his first pole so far in 2013 and only his second in 84 Nationwide Series starts and his time of 30.279s (178.341mph) just 0.013s faster than fellow front row man Elliott Sadler. Hornish led for the first 53 laps until a pit lane speeding penalty dropped him to the back and allowed briefly Logano and then Sadler to take point.

Austin Dillon picked up the lead after a round of green-flag pit tops midway through the 200-lap race, shortly before a cut tyre put Travis Pastrana into the wall in turn 1 on lap 114 and a spin by Regan Smith on lap 128 brought out cautions and allowed Logano to lead again after a two-tyre stop. Sadler soon took the lead on lap 145 and pulled a now-recovered Hornish through with him to second place, and a caution on lap 172 allowed everyone to pit and avoid the spectre of a fuel conservation/splash and dash finish. Hornish won a four-wide battle at the restart only to be stymied by another caution for Reed Sorenson blowing an engine and at the final restart on lap 186 Logano was able to claim the lead which he kept to the finish to clinch his 20th victory in 118 starts and his second of the season.

Hornish's climb back to second place by the end of the race helped him take the lead of the Nationwide Series championship by seven points over Regan Smith, who struggled all afternoon with low voltage alternator issues.
