Indianapolis: Nationwide results

Kyle Busch led 92 of the 100-lap Indiana 250 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway to claim victory over Brian Scott at the Brickyard.
A win for Kyle Busch at Indianapolis Motor Speedway after a dominant run in the second NASCAR Nationwide Series race to be held at the iconic circuit righted the 'wrong' of 2012 in which Busch had similarly lead the majority of the inaugural Indiana 250 only to be set back by a strategy call near the end which resulted in him getting caught in a late accident and losing the chance of victory.

Determined to make no such slips second time around, Busch began by claimed his 31st pole in 259 series starts - his fifth of 2013 - to put him on the front row alongside a former Indy 500 champion, Sam Hornish Jr. for the start of the race. Bush swiftly converted the pole into a dominant lead that lasted through the first green flag pits stops and through to the first caution for debris on lap 50 at the midpoint of the 100 lap race. He stuck to pre-planned strategy and was one of only three cars not to pit under yellow, coming in instead on lap 65.

Busch was on pit road when a caution came out for Hornish's overheating engine blowing up, which set him up perfectly to claim the win. Even so, a late caution for midfield jostling that left Trevor Bayne and Kasey Kahne with bodywork damage set up a restart with six to go that saw Busch bested at the green by Brian Scott. It took three laps of intense applied pressure for Busch to regain the lead, after which there were no more missteps before he clinched the chequered flag having led all but eight laps of the race in total, finally winning the chance to kiss the famous yard of bricks on the start/finish line.

"It's Indianapolis," Busch said in victory lane. "It's pretty awesome to be able to win here. It's cool to win at this place with the history, with all the automobiles that have raced on this surface." It's his 59th victory in 259 Nationwide starts and his eighth in 2013 alone. It's also his fifth victory from pole position this season, breaking a single-season record for wins from the pole.

In the Nationwide standings, Hornish's early retirement means he tumbles three places out of the lead, but engine worries for Regan Smith meant he was unable to press home the advantage and instead it's Austin Dillon who leaps to the top by six points over Smith after finishing in 12th position at Indy.
