Iowa: Nationwide results

Brad Keselowski took time off from this weekend's Cup activities in Pocono to win the NASCAR Nationwide Series race under the floodlights at Iowa Speedway on Saturday night.
Brad Keselowski secured his third Nationwide win of 2013 and his 23rd victory in 198 series starts on Saturday night in the US Cellular 250 at Iowa Speedway, which saw him clinch the chequered flag by finishing half a second clear of Sam Hornish Jr. at Iowa Speedway.

Hit early by a pit lane tyre violation penalty and then further hampered by a mid-race overheating issue, Keselowski didn't lead the race until lap 216, but once he was in front he survived a final restart and went on to control the race. That denied Austin Dillon what had looked a certain win after he led an unbroken 116 laps until pitting under caution on lap 201. That had allowed Trevor Bayne and Brian Vickers to get ahead and both briefly lead after the restart, before Keselowski arrived on the scene in the now-flying #22 Penske Racing car. Keselowski was the only Cup regular to have made the day trip from Pocono.

Earlier, Drew Herring had beaten Regan Smith to pole position with a lap of 23.270s (135.367mph) in the #54 Kyle Busch Motorsports Toyota on the seven-eighths of a mile short track. It was the 26-year-old's first pole in 11 Nationwide starts and he went on to lead for the first 26 laps, going in to finish a solid sixth place despite being the cause of the first caution of the race when he spun in turn 2 on lap 54. The other cautions of the evening were for fluid from Reed Sorenson's ailing car on lap 140, Travis astrana hitting the wall after suffering a cut tyre on lap 199, and a spin for Richard Harriman on lap 223.

In the championship standings, a fourth place finish at Iowa allowed Austin Dillon to extend his new lead in the series to 14 points over former front runner Regan Smith, while finishing as runner-up on Saturday boosted Sam Hornish Jr. back into equal second place and in front of Elliott Sadler, with just 28 points now covering the top five drivers which include Brian Vickers.
