Bristol: Truck results

Kyle Busch won the first of the week's NASCAR races at Bristol Motor Speedway, narrowly pipping a spinning Timothy Peters to the line in the Wednesday night UNOH 200 Truck event.
Kyle Busch won a rare midweek floodlit NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event on Wednesday night crossing the line a whisker ahead of longtime race leader Timothy Peters to clinch his third win of 2013 and his 33rd in 111 career Truck races. It's his fourth win in the series at Bristol Motor Speedway.

There had been five cautions during the race, the first coming on just the second lap when Nate Monteith spun at turn 4. Brandon Jones spun in the same place on lap 63, and John Wes Townley went into the wall on lap 81 with contact with Ty Dillon and Jeff Agnew. Agnew himself brought out the fourth caution with a spin on lap 181, and at the restart Matt Crafton ran out of fuel, slowed and was rear-ended by Brad Keselowski.

That set up the final restart at which Ryan Blaney was on point but Busch was able to put the advantage of the inside line to good use to take the lead for the first time in the race when the green came out, having nearly gone a lap down just before the Townley caution occurred. The race was far from over, however, and in the remaining seven laps Busch came under intense pressure from Peters who had opted to stay out while others pitted, and the #51 took the chequered flag just five hundredths of a second ahead of the #17 which spun while pushing hard coming out of the final corner and ended up hitting the inside wall after the line.

"I knew I had it, I just had the momentum," said Busch afterwards. "Timothy just tried to throw the Hail Mary there I guess and wrecked a pretty good race truck. I hated it for him in doing that."

In the championship standings, Matt Crafton continues to lead by 49 points ahead of James Buescher, who has taken over second place from Jeb Burton coming out of the Bristol event.

Earlier in the day, 17-year-old Chase Elliott had become the youngest pole winner in series history with a qualifying lap time of 15.328s (125.183mph) on the half mile short track, just pipping series rookie Ryan Blaney by 0.019s. Elliott acquitted himself well in the race and led for 63 of the 200 laps, and he looks on course for a full season in Trucks in 2014 with Hendrick Motorsport.
