Bristol: Nationwide results

Kyle Busch took his second win of the week at Bristol Motor Speedway with a dominant display from pole to claim victory in the Nationwide Series race.
Kyle Busch is two thirds of his way to a Bristol sweep after adding victory in the Friday night Food City 250 NASCAR Nationwide Series race to his midweek win in the Truck Series event. It's his ninth win in 2013 and his 60th victory in 261 series starts, the sixth time in total that he's won a Nationwide event at Bristol. It means that the 26-year-old now has a total of 120 Cup, Nationwide and Truck Series victories (15 of them at Bristol alone), putting him second only to NASCAR Hall of Famer Richard Petty who finished his stock car racing career with 200 victories.

Busch did it in dominant style, only out of the lead for a single 32 lap stint after a round of pit stops set him briefly back to fourth place. But despite his success at the circuit to this point, his chances of making it three wins from three races at Bristol as he did in 2010 nonetheless look remote, after a disastrous Sprint Cup qualifying session sent him to the back of the the grid for Saturday's race. However, given his display of form here on Wednesday and Friday evenings, no one's writing him off just yet.

Busch had earlier claimed his 32nd pole in 261 NASCAR Nationwide Series races and his sixth in 2013 with a lap of 15.354s (124.971mph) on the half mile Bristol Motor Speedway short track. With 48 drivers competing for the 40-car grid, those missing out on the evening's race were Joey Gase, Kevin Lepage, David Starr, Carl Long, Michael McDowell, Mike Harmon, Martin Roy and Morgan Shepherd.

Busch held the lead through to the first caution for debris on lap 65 by which time there were only 13 cars left on the lead lap. Busch alone among the leaders opted to stay off pit road during the caution, and soon proved that having old tyres wasn't the cast iron handicap many had expected.

A caution for Nelson Piquet spinning in turn 1 on lap 104 saw Busch pit this time hoping to make it to the finish without further tops, with Kyle Larson staying out to become the first change of leader all evening. Trevor Bayne opted for a two-tyre stop and was first to emerge from pit lane to take up second spot on the track ahead of Brad Keselowski and Busch. Busch quickly moved back to second place but Larson continued to fend him off for the lead until lap 129 when normal service was resumed.

A third caution on lap 153 - after Drew Herring felt that he had been encouraged into the wall by Mike Bliss - packed up the cars for a doomed restart on lap 167 that saw Brian Vickers go into the wall and rebound into Parker Kligerman, with Regan Smith also involved - a bad day for several of the leading Nationwide Series championship contenders.

Busch took the restart ahead of Keselowski, Austin Dillon, Brian Scott and Trevor Bayne on lap 179 and quickly pulled away, but once he hit the tail end of the lapped traffic he was held up and Keselowski was able to gain ground on him once more; between them the pair pulled out a seven second lead over Dillon who was fighting a very loose #3 to stay ahead of Justin Allgaier and Kyle Larson with just nine laps in total left on the lead lap by the time Busch crossed the finish line having led for 228 of the 250 laps of the race.

In the championship standings, Sam Hornish Jr. continues to lead, now by just six points over Austin Dillon whose this place at Bristol helped him leapfrog over both Elliott Sadler and Regan Smith for second place, while Brian Vickers' accident drops him to fifth place behind Justin Allgaier.
