Atlanta: Cup results

Kyle Busch didn't lead Sunday's night's floodlit AdvoCare 500 in Atlanta until a late restart with just 36 laps remaining of the 325-lap race. But once in front, he refused to let go again.
Kyle Busch clinched a position in the 2013 Chase in the best way possible, with victory in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series AdvoCare 500 night race at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Sunday. It's his fourth win of the year and his 28th victory in 318 Cup starts, his second visit to victory lane at Atlanta in his Cup career.

It was a race with significant impact on the Chase standings overall. Despite finishing in 28th place on Sunday after a late spin, Jimmie Johnson continues to lead the championship by 28 points from Clint Bowyer who had looked set to overhaul Johnson at the top until his engine failed while he was leading the race on lap 192.

After an early accident at Atlanta dropped him out of the top ten in the points standings with just one race remaining next week before the Chase cut-off, Kasey Kahne will likely now make the Chase by taking one of the 'most wins' wildcard - which leaves Martin Truex Jr. and Ryan Newman locked in a desperate battle over the other, with only one driver able to succeed.

Reigning Cup champion Brad Keselowski also suffered an engine failure which seems certain to mean he won't be able to defend his title in the Chase. Instead, second place at Atlanta gives Joey Logano a strong claim to a spot in the play-offs, while Kurt Busch pops back into the top ten after finishing fourth at Atlanta although he's just six points clear of four-time Cup champion Jeff Gordon who also desperately wants that final Chase berth.
