Chicagoland: Nationwide results

An utterly dominant display gave Kyle Busch his second win of the weekend at Chicagoland Speedway on Saturday afternoon and sets up the chance for him to claim the sweep in tomorrow's Cup race.
A flag-to-flag run by Kyle Busch saw the Joe Gibbs Racing #54 out in front for all but five of the 200 laps at Chicagoland Speedway for Saturday afternoon's NASCAR Nationwide Series race, a dominant display rarely under even the mildest threat as the 28-year-old cruised to his 61st victory in 264 series races - his tenth of 2013 alone and his third career victory at the 1.5-mile speedway.

Picking up where he'd left off in victory lane after the Truck Series race the previous evening, Busch had earlier clinched pole position for the Dollar General 300, his eighth pole of 2013 and his 34th in the series. He was joined on the front row by Austin Dillon for the green flag and quickly pulled away to lead the first 25 laps, until a stall on pit road under the first caution of the day (for a slow Joe Nemechek) cost him several spots and allowed Joey Logano to take charge from Dale Earnhardt Jr. who was on a two-tyre strategy at the restart.

It was only four laps before Busch was back at the front, however, and the #54 extended that to a near-ten second lead over the next phase of the race which included a round of green flag pit stops but which finally came to an end on lap 107 with a debris caution. A two-tyre stop enabled Busch to resume at the front on lap 112 but for the first time he came under pressure for the lead from Sam Hornish Jr. He was finally able to fend that off, while also on the move into the top four were Matt Kenseth and Kyle Larson thanks to taking four fresh tyres on pit road - the latter completing his recovery all the way from a back row start after spinning in qualifying.

A caution on lap 158 after Elliott Sadler was rear-ended by Brett Butler as the #11 was slowing to come onto pit road enabled the leaders to carry out their final stops under yellow. Busch continued to lead but Larson's day came to an end on lap 174 when a left rear wheel rub ended in a blown tyre that put the #32 into the wall and scattered debris over the track out of turn 2. The restart saw Justin Allgaier hit the wall on lap 183 and rebound into Regan Smith to tip the #7 into a spin, leaving the race with a final 14-lap shootout once the green flag came out again on lap 187. Busch had to work hard to fend off Austin Dillon to keep the lead, but once that was done he was quickly out of touch of the rest of the field as he went on to claim the chequered flag - the first time the Nationwide race at Chicagoland had been won from pole - while behind him Dillon succumbed to the attentions of both Penske cars by the finish.

That put Sam Hornish Jr. into third spot and the highest of the Nationwide Series regulars, helping him extend his lead in the championship to 17 points over Austin Dillon with Regan Smith and Elliott Sadler losing ground as a result of their respective in-race incidents.
