Jarno Trulli gave Toyota a welcome lift as the Japanese giant continues to battle back from its poor start to the season, by topping the timesheets at the end of the second day of testing at
Silverstone.
Indeed, the Italian was quickest despite completing fewer laps than almost any other driver present, and his form maintained
Toyota's supremacy after team-mate
Ralf Schumacher had led the way on day one. Trulli focussed on engine work and set-up preparation ahead of next month's British Grand Prix at the Northamptonshire circuit and encountered no reliability issues with his TF107, though his running was limited by a change of suspension settings and a heavy shower just as he was set to return to the track in the afternoon.
“In general it was a positive day,” he remarked afterwards, “even though it's difficult to judge comparative performance because it's always very windy here. The morning went well for us testing set-up and tyres, and I felt pretty comfortable with the car. Then we changed the suspension settings so we lost some time around the lunch break.
“After the rain in the afternoon we only had about a half an hour more of meaningful work, but that was typical of the problems we can face during testing. Overall the running I have been able to complete has been good so I would say we are in reasonable shape here.”
Kimi Raikkonen ended the day second-fastest in the
Ferrari, just over a tenth shy of Trulli's best effort, with Alex Wurz continuing both his and
Williams' recent strong form in third after concentrating on aerodynamic work before team-mate
Nico Rosberg takes over for the final day on Thursday.
