F1 team boss, Sir Frank Williams has thanked Alex Wurz for his 'invaluable contribution' to the team over the past two years.
Although Williams will now have to draft in a replacement for the season ending Brazilian Grand Prix in two weeks time, Frank was quick to salute the Austrian, who to date, has taken the team's only podium finish of the season, following his third place finish in Canada back in June.
"Alex has made an invaluable contribution to the team for the past two years, first as one of the best test and development drivers the team has ever worked with, and more recently as a race driver," said
Williams.
"This season Alex has had some very strong drives in difficult circumstances and we would like to thank him for all he has contributed.
"Alex is well known, immensely popular and widely regarded as one of
Formula 1's gentlemen. I am sure I speak for everyone in the paddock when I wish Alex and his family the very best for the future."
Who will join
Nico Rosberg in the sister Toyota-powered FW29 for Interlagos has yet to be announced – although Williams test drivers'
Kazuki Nakajima and Narain Karthikeyan are both probably in with a chance.
Indeed the former ran in Friday practice in China and with Toyota-backing may have the edge.
An announcement is due from the Grove-based outfit with regard to who will drive the #17 car on Tuesday.
