International supermodel Jodie Kidd joined Lucky Strike BAR
Honda yesterday [Sunday] as a VIP guest of the team, to watch drivers Jacques Villeneuve and
Jenson Button compete in the 2003 Italian Grand Prix at the legendary Monza circuit, near Milan.
She witnessed Villeneuve bring his BAR Honda 005 home in sixth position, collecting three vital constructors' points and consolidating the team's fifth place in the championship.
The car-crazy 24-year-old from Surrey, England, who has modelled for Chanel, Lagerfeld and Yves Saint Laurent, and who is also a talented polo player, is a big fan of
Formula One and her attendance at the Italian Grand Prix is just the latest in a line of motoring and motorsport related events.
Jodie's passion for cars started three years ago when she took part in a Gumball Rally from New York to Los Angeles. Since then she has participated in a number of activities and recently hit the headlines for taking the crown in a
Top Gear celebrity driving challenge, beating Jay Kay and Jeremy Clarkson.
During her day with the team, Jodie spent some time with the BAR drivers; former World Champion, Villeneuve and British star, Button. She enjoyed a tour of the BAR team garage and motorhome, and the BAR Honda 005 car. Prior to the race start, Jodie also absorbed the atmosphere on the famous grid walk before settling down to watch all the action unfold in the team garage.
Talking about her day with the BAR team, Jodie commented: "I have been to
Silverstone twice before but this is the first time I have been abroad to an
F1 race. In about three weeks I will be back in Milan for the Fashion Week so it's nice to come here for something different.
"I love cars and at the moment I am working towards my racing licence. The drivers in F1 are very talented and the sport is incredibly stylish. It was a shame for Jenson Button today [Sunday]. He is one of my favourite drivers. I like to support the British boys and he is a nice guy with a good head on him. I hope he goes really far. I'm looking forward to Jenson winning a race."
