Justin Wilson signalled his own return to form with fourth place, albeit as the first man not to break into the 58secs bracket. The RSport driver headed team-mate Alex Tagliani as the Canadian continued his strong start to the season in fifth.
Having claimed a podium first time out as Paul Tracy's stand-in at Forsythe Racing, Oriol Servia sent out another reminder to prospective employers with sixth-fastest time, putting himself ahead of Neel Jani, Simon Pagenaud - who had formed a Team Australia 1-2 with Power in morning practice - Bruno Junqueira and Ryan Dalziel.
"It was a decent lap, but we still have some speed left in the car," Servia reported, "I believe that we can be in the top three - I don't think we have enough for pole
position yet, but tomorrow is another day. Considering what I was doing last Friday, it is an excellent result!"
The second Forsythe car, campaigned by Mario Dominguez, was only twelfth fastest, while Tristan Gommendy, Dan Clarke and Katherine Legge were all left to find time as they failed to break one minute for their best lap in the session.
Alex Figge, meanwhile, was an absentee, having decided that the back injury he sustained in Long Beach required more time to heal.
