Jeld-Wen Motorsport's James Courtney cut a frustrated figure in the Oran park paddock after Sunday's wet climax to round eight of the V8 Supercar series, having been forced to park his SBR Falcon.

The rising star followed team-mate Russell Ingall in making up ground in race two, finishing two places ahead of his veteran colleague in seventh after starting from 19th position on the grid.

Like Ingall, he also opted to start the wet third race from pit-lane after fitting rain tyres when rain started to fall on the grid and the decision proved to be the correct one, with Courtney up to eighth by lap seven, but his day turned sour a couple of laps later when he reported problems with his front brakes.

The problem forced the Jeld-Wen driver into the pits on lap 14, allowing the SBR crew completed his compulsory stop and check his brakes, but, although Courtney rejoined the race, he retired one lap later.

“We weren't going too bad in the first part of the third race but, as we kept going, I lost all brake pressure and had to keep pumping the pedal all the way around," he revealed, “I had a long stop trying to find out what the problem was and headed back out, but it was no better so we decided to stop rather than risk binning the new car.

“We had a pretty good race earlier today coming from 19th to seventh, but that's not what we want to be doing. We need to work on it so we can get out in front and make things a bit easier on ourselves and then the results will come.”
