The second biggest question of the Brazilian Grand Prix, after pondering who would win the world title, surrounded Michael Schumacher's plans now that he is headed into a well-earned retirement from Formula One.

The German appeared unconcerned, repeating that he intended to spend time with his young family before taking any lasting decisions, despite being linked to a possible role with Ferrari, but already appears to have offers waiting for him.

Retiring to the sun appears to be the most appealing option, following news that the seven-time world champion has been offered his own island off the shores of mega-rich oil nation Dubai.

According to reports, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum has promised Schumacher one of 300 islands in an artificial atoll being constructed in the country's latest development project off the coast of Jumeirah. Provisionally names 'The World', the site is designed to represent a map of the globe when viewed from the air, and will consist of exclusive properties, resorts, and 'community islands' for the rich and famous that continue to flock to the Emirates.

According to the developer's information, each island will range from 23,000 to 83,000 square metres in size, with 50 to 100 metres of water between each. It will cover a total area of nine kilometres in length and six kilometres in width, surrounded by an oval shaped breakwater. The only means of transportation between the islands will be by sea or air transport.

The only obvious drawback for Schumacher's retirement plans is that the development is not due for completion until 2008, but the driver's manager, Willi Weber, told Germany's Bild magazine that the island would make the perfect holiday retreat for Michael and wife Corinna.

"Michael hasn't considered exactly how he would like his island," Weber added, "Perhaps he will construct himself a kart circuit there!"
