It's a busy time for many of the participants of the WRC-BRC Cycle, and Gwyndaf Evans' co-driver Huw Lewis is one of them. Not only is he doing the cycle this week and Rally Isle of Man next week, he's even fitted in a testing session, as he explains below...


It started off wet today which was a bit of a shock to the system, so we delayed our start for a little bit. Then we had a lengthy climb through the forest, about five miles. We've cycled for about five or six hours in total today, and covered about 33 miles from Brecon to Bargoed via Taffs Trails through Merthyr Tydfil, Aberfan and Abercynon.

It got warmer again once we got on the bikes, and we're down in the valleys now so it's hard work. But we had a great night with Brecon Motor Club last night and a few of their members even cycled the whole route with us today. I feel I'm doing surprisingly well, I'm getting used to being on the bike now, but my legs ache!

The end is in sight now though, just one more day, and a 20 mile ride into Cardiff, from Bargoed Country Park to the Millennium Stadium via Radyr and Llandaf. We've got a film crew with us for the final leg. In a way it's a shame for it to end, it's been great fun for us all and we've genuinely cycled every hill together which has driven us all forward to raise as much money as we can.

It's quite nice for those of us who are competing on Rally Isle of Man to have a week off work before the rally too. Myself and Gwyndaf are competing in the British Historic Rally Championship section in a Ford Escort Mk2 so we've got some time together to plan and think about it all this week. We even managed to fit in a test in the car on Tuesday night after the 45-mile day on the bikes! It went really well.

We finish the cycle tomorrow and go to the Isle of Man on Wednesday so we'll have a few days in between to see the family. And we're well exercised ahead of the rally which is good, it keeps you sharp.

So it is 20 miles tomorrow and we're done, finishing in Cardiff at lunch time. But the fundraising will continue well after that and we're grateful for every penny.
