Third spot for Gwyndaf

Gwyndaf Evans had to set for the bronze medal in the 2007 Tesco 99 Octane MSA British Rally Championship.

Evans went into the final event in the series, the double-points scoring Wales Rally GB, still in with an outside chance of taking the title, however that hope disappeared at the end of round six on Friday, when he finished just 3.2 seconds behind his team-mate, Guy Wilks in second.

Day two though didn't go to plan for the Welshman and having taken a jump in SS8 at high-speed, the resulting heavy impact on landing damaged a number of components in his Lancer Evo IX, the most significant being the transmission casings. Although there appeared to be no change in his car's handing, the mechanical injuries manifested themselves on SS11, when Evans lost all gears and frustratingly his car coasted to a halt.

He was eventually classified in eleventh place for round seven under the SupeRally, finishing the year with 75 points - 25 less than Wilks, who took the title and 19 less than Mark Higgins, who ended the year second.

"We were fully on course to make it a one-two for Mitsubishi in the BRC and PWRC, so it was a great disappointment not to finish," reflected Gwyndaf.

"But you have to look at the bigger picture and I'm delighted that the work we did on Friday helped secure the Team's title [for Mitsubishi] and allow us to claim third in the British Championship. I know how much this has meant to the whole team.

"I really must thank Mitsubishi for a great year and there is no doubting the commitment of everyone involved. I've have to admit that I have been pleased to still be on the pace of the championship front-runners, which means I'm now considering my options for 2008!"
