Multiple British Rally champion Mark Higgins has vowed to come out fighting in 2008, after missing out on the BRC title last weekend.
Higgins went into the double-points scoring Wales Rally GB, what made up rounds six and seven of the 2007 Tesco 99 Octane MSA British Rally Championship, as one of the favourites to take the title, however in the end he unable to defend his crown and lost out to Guy Wilks in the final standings by 6 points.
Speaking at the finish, the 36-year-old was clearly disappointed, although after transmission problems slowed him on the final loop, he was just glad to get his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo to the end.
"To be honest I'm just lucky to be here at the finish. We had quite a few problems through the weekend and it's not really what we were planning to do here," reflected the Stobart Motorsport-backed man.
"But after all the problems I just wanted to finish as we drove the motorway road section to the finish stuck in third gear.
"It was a pity coming to this rally with only one championship possible and we've left without it! But it's been a fantastic season and fair play to Guy as he drove a great rally."
Pressed on how felt to miss out on that fourth title, after triumphing in 1997, 2005 and 2006, he added that while it is a blow, he hopes to be able to get his revenge next season, assuming Wilks opts to defend his crown.
"Obviously I'm gutted. I'm very disappointed about losing the British Rally Championship title - it's not been a good year. Guy did well though and made very few mistakes. But next year I'll be back to give him a fight," he summed-up.
