Greer maintains record - despite nightmare

Jonathan Greer managed to claim a provisional P5 finish on the International Rally Yorkshire last weekend, the fifth round in the 2008 Tesco 99 Octane MSA British Rally Championship.

Greer, who recently celebrated his 20th birthday, had a fraught build-up with a dose of the 'flu hampering his preparations.

The event did not go any smoother either, and halfway through SS4 the centre differential on his Mitsubishi Evo failed.

With service a further two stages away, Greer and new co-driver Dai Robets had no choice but to complete the remainder of the test and the following two with the differentials locked, effectively making it a rear wheel drive car.

A superb job by the DGM service crew however meant the diff was changed with plenty of service time to spare and Greer resumed having dropped from sixth to eighth because of the problem.

"Four-wheel drive is hard enough to stop and control when you have four wheels working, when it has only two it is a nightmare," he explained. "I was glad to see the service so we could put the problem right."

After that though things went more to plan and Greer maintained his 100 per cent finishing record, eventually ending proceedings seventh overall and fifth in the BRC following Guy Wilks' exclusion. Assuming the results stand, Greer will move up into third place in the BRC standings.

Greer will now take in the Bulldag Rally next on October 18, what is the final round of the Mitsubishi Evolution Challenge and his penultimate outing this season, prior to the Wales Rally GB.
