Revolution to miss GB and do Tempest instead

The Revolution Wheels Rally Team has confirmed that it will not take in December's Wales Rally GB, the final round in the 2008 Tesco 99 Octane MSA British Rally Championship.

The squad has opted to miss the points' scoring double header as it not in a position to improve its current position in the team's championship and it would also rather put the money towards next year's budget, team boss, Warren McKiernan told Crash.net. Instead Rob Swann and Karl Simmons will end the year this coming weekend, when they do the Tempest Rally instead.

"It's a shame that I'm not available for the Tempest as it's a fantastic event," McKiernan added. "Rob and Karl should go well here though and it's a perfect opportunity to finish the year on a high."

Swann is looking forward to doing the Aldershot-based round and regards it as one of his favourite events: "I finished third overall in 2007 and know this event well having competed for several years," he continued.

"I consider this to be my home rally and would welcome the events return to the British Rally Championship. My regular co-driver Darren Garrod will be sat alongside and I will be looking for a podium finish."

Simmons meanwhile, who has had to sit out a good portion of the season following knee surgery, is also a fan of the event.

Together with his brother Guy, he competed on the recent Premier Rally finishing fourth overall. The car ran well and the times were respectable given that two stages in the morning were completed with a broken rear damper.

"The Premier result has given us the reassurance to put in a late entry for the Tempest and Karl is more confident now with his fitness in the car," Guy explained. "We are both looking forward to linking up with Rob and the other team members on a rally that was one of our favourites last year.

"Hopefully having secured a good result last year on our first attempt at the rally, the experience gained should stand us in good stead for this years event and we are looking forward to a good Group N battle on what are fabulous stages on a fantastically run event."
