British teenager Tom Cave will create history on Wales Rally GB when he becomes the youngest driver ever to take part in the event.

Cave, who has spent the last two years competing in Latvia where he was allowed to compete on special stages despite being too young to drive on the public roads, successfully passed his UK driving test today (Tuesday) and will take the start ramp in Cardiff next week aged just 17 years and 18 days.

Cave picked up just seven minor faults during his test and will now get ready to hit the Welsh stages in his Fiesta ST, which he will contest under a licence handed out by the Latvian Automobile Federation.

"I'm delighted to pass my test today," Cave said. "It was the last hurdle to get over before I could take the start of Wales Rally GB and it's a huge relief to have it out of the way. Now I can concentrate on the rally and my preparations for the most important motorsport event of my life.

"Our objective for Wales Rally GB is simple; to bring our Group N Ford Fiesta ST to the finish, ideally without using SupeRally. To complete the event on my first attempt, on the same stages as the best drivers on the world, would be an incredible feat for me and a perfect culmination of two years of competition in Latvia."
