Wilks confirmed as Trackrod winner?

2007 British Rally champion Guy Wilks looks set to be confirmed as the winner of the International Rally Yorkshire.

Wilks, who dominated the penultimate round in the 2008 Tesco 99 Octane MSA British Rally Championship taking victory on every stage and beating title rival Mark Higgins by a minute and thirty seconds, was originally excluded after rival teams protested the size of a bolt on the steering wheel of his works Lancer Evo 9. As such the result has remained provisional ever since.

However, on Wednesday the matter went to the MSA - the governing body of motorsport in the UK - and it found in favour Mitsubishi, at least according to Wilks' personal website.

No official confirmation has yet been sent out by the MSA or Rod Parkin, Rally Yorkshire's clerk of the course - although it is expected.

"I have always had total confidence in Mitsubishi Motors UK and ADR Motorsport," Wilks told his personal website. "I'm just glad we can settle the British Rally Championship out on the stages, just as it should be."

Wilks looks set to now go to the Rally GB next week with 76 points on the board - trailing both Mark Higgins and David Higgins, who share top spot in the standings, by just two points.

If Wilks wins both events in Wales - the event counts as two rounds in the BRC - he will retain his crown regardless of where his rivals finish.
