Gwyndaf Evans' son Elfyn is still new to rallying and this will be only his third year competing. Last season he was entered in the Fiesta Sporting Trophy UK series and in 2008 he will do that again, as well as also taking in the FST in Ireland. Crash.net Radio caught up with the GEMsport driver recently at the Autosport International Show to chat to him about targets for '08...

Crash.net:
Elfyn, it has just been announced that you will compete in the Fiesta Sporting Trophy series in the UK and in Ireland with your dad's team, GEMsport. You must be very pleased...

Elfyn Evans:
It is a fantastic opportunity for me. We have really got to make the most of it. We have got great backing behind us and of course a great tutor as well! We have got to capitalise on this chance.

Crash.net:
Last year you were third overall in the FSTUK standings. What are you hoping to do this season?

EE:
Last year was a bit of a learning year for us. We had a lot to learn. Obviously we will be going to Ireland for the first time this season and so there will still be a lot to learn. I have got more gravel experience than tarmac and I have still got a bit of work to do on asphalt. But this year we really are looking to be competitive and towards the top. Winning will be the aim.

Crash.net:
The Irish series will be more difficult then won't it, as most, if not all of those, will be asphalt events?

EE:
Yeah that is right - but of what I have done on tarmac, I have done three or four events, and I have really enjoyed them. The plan then will be to continue learning and continue developing my skills. Hopefully then we will be competitive on tarmac as well.

Crash.net:
At the end of last year you did the Wales Rally GB, your first WRC event. How much did you enjoy that?

EE:
That was a great experience for me. A great chance and I think it went pretty well for us. We didn't have any trouble throughout the event and the car proved to be faultless. It performed well all weekend and the result came at the end.

Crash.net:
Who will be your main rivals in the Fiesta championships?

EE:
I think Alastair Fisher is coming back and he is bound to be quick. He finished one place ahead of us last year and so he will definitely be there and in contention. I am not sure who else will be out, but I am sure there will be plenty of stiff competition.

Crash.net:
How many competitors were in the Fiesta series last year?

EE:
I think there was about 26 registered and about seven or eight were consistently swapping fastest stage times. If we can have the same kind of competitive environment for 2008 I am sure it will be a brilliant championship.
