Matt Edwards aims to score in Ulster
Edwards chases luck of the Irish
Matt Edwards will head to the Toddsleap Ulster Challenge Rally in Northern Ireland this weekend looking to score vital Championship points.

The 2010 BTRDA 1400 Series Winner and MSA English Champion has had a mixed year so far, winning the opening event and then not finishing the second and third rounds through transmission failures.

Edwards has taken advantage of the two month summer recess from the Championship to gain further tarmac experience and try different set ups on the car including new transmission components, assisted by 586 Sport and Mr Tyre Motorsport.

“I feel ready for the Ulster event now,” he said. “The recent non-championship events have been a great opportunity to get the car set up right for the tarmac stages that we will be driving this weekend and it's all been good experience in learning the different skills needed for doing the tarmac events. I'm particularly happy that we took the class win on the Pokerstars rally in the Isle of Man on unfamiliar roads and against local talent.”

Bad fortune in the first half of the season means that Edwards will be looking for good finishes in the two separate rally rounds in Ulster on Friday and Saturday with the chance to score in each round.

“We need to have a bit of luck for a change and put in a steady performance as there is still a chance of a finishing in the top of championship providing we score this weekend.”

Edwards has received mid season support from Mintex Questsmead, 586 Sport and Holton Homes. Through his contact with local structural engineers, EWP, Edwards has picked up financial assistance for the Ulster event from Menai Bridge based architectural practice WM Design & Architecture Ltd and Stena Line Ltd.

“Matt came to our attention through a mutual contact and it's a great pleasure to support a local guy with so much potential,” WMD director Adrian Williamson said. “We wish him well in Ulster this weekend and will be keeping an eye on the results through Friday and Saturday.”

Edwards is contesting the British Rally Championship Challenge series alongside Manx man Kevin Vondy, the two battling it out in the RC2 class. Edwards, now in his seventh year of rallying, will pilot the ex Callum Black 1400 MGZR , a car in which he has frequently proven his pace, outstripping some of the four wheel drive on some events.
