Taylor: A number of events want to join BRC

by Rob Wilkins

BRC manager, Mark Taylor has confirmed that a 'number of events' have contacted him with regard to becoming a future round of the Tesco 99 Octane MSA British Rally Championship.

Although the schedule for next year has already been confirmed and won't include an extra seventh event, Taylor told Crash.net Radio recently that everything is looking very positive for 2009.

"We have already gone to press and said we are looking for a seventh event and that is true for 2009," he said at the Castle Combe Rallyday last month.

"We are looking for a seventh round and I have appealed to any of the rally organisers out there, who are interested in being a round of the BRC to come forward. We have had a number of events that have come forward for that. I can't go into details but obviously I think the championship would warrant a seventh rally.

"The competitors want a seventh rally and we have just got to look at where it is going to be and how that works with the rest of the events. But it is looking good at the moment."

As for next year's calendar, which was confirmed in mid-September and will include the same six events as this year, Mark said he was pleased with the schedule.

"The calendar for next year looks really good. We have worked closely with each of the rallies.

"The Trackrod has moved back into its traditional weekend, which was the third weekend in September. It was thrown out by Rally GB moving to September a few years ago. So the Trackrod has gone back, which really helps them and as a result of that the Ulster has moved into the third weekend in August. So they have all worked together.

"Now we have got six rallies with a good spread across the championship season and next year's calendar looks positive," he concluded.
