Nesbitt completes Jim Clark hatrick


Andrew Nesbitt notched up his third win successive win on the Jim Clark Memorial Rally yesterday [Saturday], the fourth round of the Kwik Fit Pirelli British Rally Championship.

Nesbitt dominated the event, setting the pace on 15 of the stages.

Eugene Donnelly and Derke McGarrity completed the top three finishers, while current championship leader, David Higgins was fourth, and Austin MacHale rounded off the top five.

Higgins thus continues to head the provisional standings with 74 points, while Barry Johnson, who finished seventh, lies second on 57, and Matthew Wilson, stays third, his total increasing to 53, after he finished eleventh in his Ford Focus.

Suzuki's Guy Wilks was the winner of the Super 1600 category [eighth overall], with Jonnie Wigmore second in the 'Junior' class and 18th overall.

"I feel on top of the world after this result, as it increases my chances of winning the Super 1600 championship," a delighted Wilks said after the Scottish event, "It also takes away the memory of my non-finish the last time I competed here, in 2003."

In the Production Cup Paul Wedgbury took the win, while the Ladies Cup honours went to Loran Smith, 19th overall, and William Bonniwell took the victory in the Fiat Stilo Cup.

44 cars were classified at the finish.

The next event is the Manx International Rally on July 29/31.
