The MSA British Rally Championship will still run a category for Swift Sport Cup cars this year, it has been confirmed.
A notice on the official BRC website read:
"Despite the statement from Suzuki Motor Corporation [announcing it has suspended its direct involvement with the Suzuki Swift Sport Cup], the British Rally Championship will run a category for Swift Sport Cup cars as per the 2009 published regulations, which includes a nomination to the Pirelli Star Driver competition.
"Despite only receiving the statement this afternoon [February 3], the Championship has already contacted Suzuki to request authorisation to continue to use the 'Swift Sport Cup' title.
"The BRC is also working closely with existing partners to provide on-event support.
"Existing competitors and those planning to contest the Cup in 2009 should be reassured that there will be an opportunity within the 2009 MSA British Rally Championship to compete against equal machinery in their Swift Cup cars."
