Pirelli organisers pleases as Swift Cup saved

Organisers of the Carlisle-based Pirelli International Rally have expressed pleasure that the Swift Sport Cup will return to the event for a second year.

After Suzuki elected to suspend the series, it looked like 2008 would be the only year of competition for the one-make championship, but ongoing discussions between Suzuki GB and the British Rally Championship have seen a deal struck that will see the BRC take over the running of the series for 2009.

The new deal will also see the winner secure an IRC drive on Rally Scotland, with seven drivers having signed up so far for the season ahead.

“It's really great that the Swift Sport Cup is continuing for 2009,” a spokesman for the Pirelli International – the second round of the season – said. “It is a super series for up and coming drivers and gives them the advantage of competing in the British Rally Championship at reasonable cost.

“We look forward to welcoming all the Swift Sport competitors to Carlisle and are sure they will enjoy the challenge of the Kielder stages.”
